Day 1 – Anuradhapura

Weather in Anuradhapura
The weather in Anuradhapura is generally hot and ranges close to 29 – 30 degrees. During February – April it gets extremely hot and the temperature goes up to 33.2°C.
Getting Around
Most of the attractions are spread out therefore its best to travel by an air-conditioned car. Cycling or walking will be too hot to handle for many.
Day 2 – Minneriya
A 1.5 hours drive from Anuradhapura will take you to the tiny town of Minneriya, which is popular for two things.
Firstly, the massive Minneriya reservoir built by King Mahasen and secondly the Minneriya National Park which is a nature lover’s paradise.
Minneriya National Park
Majestic elephants, scruffy sloth bears, playful monkeys, graceful leopards and colourful birdlife – Minneriya National Park is as wild as it gets. A wildlife safari at the park is fun, exciting, and well worth the time.
The Minneriya National Park is a gorgeous wildlife sanctuary. It is home to a variety of fauna and flora.
The highlight of the park is the ‘Minneriya elephant gathering’ – this is the highest concentration of Asian elephants that gather around the Minneriya reservoir inside the park.
Located on the North Central province of Sri Lanka sandwiched between Habarana and Polonnaruwa – Minneriya National Park is a nature lover’s hub.
The key feature of the park is the Minneriya reservoir built by King Mahasen in the 3rd century BC.
The best time to visit the park is in the afternoon after 3 pm. A safari jeep with a well-versed guide will accompany you on the safari.
You can expect to see different species of mammals including leopards, sambar deer, toque macaque, purple-faced langur, sloth bear, wild buffalo, wild pig, mongoose porcupine, Indian pangolin and of course elephants! If you enjoy bird watching then Minneriya has some nice surprises in store.
Elephant gathering
From June to September when the dry season hits the park, there is a remarkable sight in the park called ‘the gathering’.
During the late afternoons, hundreds of Asian elephants gather around the reservoir to graze the green grass around the massive tank and quench their thirst on the sweet waters.
During the peak season close to August, you get close to two hundred elephants gathering here.
This is considered the biggest grouping of wild elephants in Asia.

Day 3 – Ella
On the third day of the Sri Lanka tour packages from Nagpur we wanted to take you someplace ‘cool’- literally!
Ella is a traveller’s paradise. A charming town nestled in the central highlands gifted with natural beauty, misty hilltops, cascading waterfalls, and spiced with legends from the Ramayana – Ella is the complete package.
Nine Arch Bridge
Considered one of the most picturesque locations in Ella, the Nine Arch Bridge, or the ‘bridge in the sky’ is a place you must visit. It’s one of the best examples of colonial architecture in Sri Lanka.
Architecturally it stands out by the fact that the bridge is made completely out of stone and cement without the use of steel. There are nine curves or arches on this glorious man-made masterpiece.
The Nine Arch Bridge is more than 100 years old and is one of the top photographed places in the country.
Drink Tea
Sri Lanka is among the top five tea producing countries in the world. The central highlands is where a large portion of the country’s tea is produced so obviously you can expect to taste tea, lots and lots of tea.
Not only can you drink tea but you can also take a tour of a tea factory and plantation. You can visit a local tea factory to learn about the process of tea making from picking the perfect leaves to the packaging stage.
Usually, you are served a freshly brewed cuppa at the end of the tour and you can order a nice slice of chocolate cake to go with it.
Trekking
If you are the outdoorsy type, Ella has a lot in store. The hike to Little Adam’s Peak is quite popular. It’s an easy hike that anyone can do irrespective of his or her fitness level.
The trek trail begins from the Ella town and is easy to follow even without a guide. Once you reach the top, you will be surrounded by breathtaking scenery but sometimes it gets misty and you can barely see anything.
Ravana cave and Ravana Waterfall
As the name suggests Ravana cave and Ravana Waterfall has links to the Ramayana legend. Since you are coming from Nagpur, we assume you know what we are talking about! These are some of the key highlights in the Sri Lanka Ramayana Tour.
The Ravana Cave is located within 2km from the Ella town. To reach the cave you need to first come to the Maha Ravana Viharya and a short hike of around 500 meters will take you to the cave.
According to the Ramayana legend King Ravana hid Sita Devi in this cave when King Rama came to rescue her.
Ravana Falls
There are two waterfalls in Ella that are called the Ravana Falls. The most popular is the one on the Bandarawela – Wellawaya road.
This is a quite popular tourist spot where people stop over to admire the cascading flow of water and enjoy the atmosphere. The second waterfall is above this and is no visible to the main road.
This is considered the ‘real’ Ravana falls since its located very close to the Ravana cave.

Day 4 – Hikkaduwa
On the final day of the Sri Lanka tour packages from Nagpur a four-hour ride from Ella will take you to the beach town of Hikkaduwa.
One of the most happening resort towns on the Southern Coast, Hikka is the place for fun and frolic under the sun.

Visit a turtle hatchery

Natural Moonstone Mine
A short drive from Hikkaduwa will take you to Meetiyagoda where the only Natural Moonstone Mine in the country is located. At the Natural Moonstone Mine, you will be able to see the mining process. The visitor information center will provide further details regarding various local gems.

Day 1 – Kandy
On our second option of Sri Lanka tour packages from Nagpur, we take you to one of the three cities in the cultural triangle – Kandy! A three-hour ride to the northeast of Colombo will take you to the sacred city of Kandy.
It is one of the greatest Sinhala kingdoms and the last ancient capital where the monarchy prospered for 2200 years but ended with colonial invasion.
Kandy is a popular pilgrim’s site among Buddhists due to the sacred Dalada Maligawa or the Temple of the Tooth. It is an important religious site not only in Sri Lanka but in the entire Buddhist world.
Due to the historic and religious significance, the city of Kandy was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Kandy is considered the cultural capital of Sri Lanka.
Here are few things to do in Kandy,
Visit the Temple of the Tooth
The Temple of the Tooth (Sri Dalada Maligawa) is a key highlight of Kandy; it houses the sacred tooth relic of Buddha. The sacred temple is located within the royal palace complex.
There is a guarded shrine room where the tooth relic is kept secured inside a golden casket.
The shrine room is open to the public three times a day for prayer and offering, this is the time visitors get a glimpse of the golden casket containing the sacred relic.
There are daily rituals taking place in the temple premises with chanting of prayer and drumming is included. Devotees come with mounds of fresh flowers to honour Lord Buddha and the sacred relic.
If you visit during July or August, you get a chance to witness the grand procession of the Esala Perahera.
There are two weeks of religious festivity leading up to the procession and it is one of the majour Buddhist processions in the world.
Udawattakele Forest Reserve
Udawattakele is a protected forest reserve and sanctuary close to the Temple of the Tooth. Covering an area of 100 hectares it is home to a variety of plants, giant lianas, birds, and small mammals. It’s a nice area for hikes and will only take a few hours to cover the reserve.

Kandyan dance performance
This is one of the best cultural experiences in Kandy. Remember the dance acts end with the performers walking on fire barefoot so it’s quite entertaining!
Peradeniya Botanical Garden
Located right outside of the Kandy city, the Peradeniya Botanical Garden is one of the most popular sites to visit.

Day 2 – Nuwara Eliya
Tucked away in Sri Lanka’s central highlands, Nuwara Eliya is a place of lush tea plantations, cascading waterfalls, colonial architecture, strawberry farms, and reminiscence of colonial time architecture.
Visit a tea plantation
Rolling mountains covered with tea plantations surround Nuwara Eliya and they are one of the main attractions. You can take a tour of a tea plantation and tea factory to understand the process that goes into creating Ceylon tea.
You will be spoilt for choice since there are so many tea factories to choose from.
Hike to Horton Plains National Park
Horton Plains National Park is spread over the south ridge of the central highland of Sri Lanka. The park can be accessed from the Nuwara Eliya town.
The highland plateau of Horton Plains is ideal for trekking. The World’s End is the popular escarpment at the park, which is at a depth of 900meters.
The view from above is magnificent but the fog makes it impossible to see everything. But if you manage to go during a clear morning, the view from the World’s End is mind-blowing!
Day 3 – Udawalawa
Sri Lanka’s biological diversity is one of its assets. Wildlife enthusiasts and adventure seekers have a chance to explore the country’s pristine wildlife.
Udawalawe Naional Park is one of the most famous national parks in the country that boasts to be among the top among spotting wild elephants.
You will find other animals as well, including monkeys, water buffaloes and deer, which are common species in most local national parks.
Located 150km from Nuwara Eliya, the Udawalawe National Park is famous for its large population of elephants.
There is nowhere better in Sri Lanka to observe and admire the magnificent Asian elephants in their natural habitat, other than at Udawalawe.
Close to four hundred elephants have been recorded here while only two hundred and fifty are permanent residents.
The park is home not only to elephants but also to a great variety of endemic and migratory birds as well as mammal species.
A trip to Udawalawe can be considered one of the best wildlife experiences since you have a chance of spotting a great number of mammals.
Prince of the Sri Lankan jungle, the leopard is one of the sought after animals among wildlife enthusiasts and wildlife photographers.
Wild boar, spotted deer, grey langur, Asian palm civet, and golden jackal are all part of the list of animals residing in Udawalawe.

Day 4 – Weligama
When you talk of Sri Lanka its impossible not to include the ocean since the glistening emerald waters surround the whole country.
We make sure that visitors always get a chance to experience the beauty that surrounded this unique land. There’s no better place to experience the beautiful shores of the Indian Ocean than in – Weligama.
Weligama is a sleepy fishing village towards the south coast of Sri Lanka. The village rambles around the broad and beautiful Weligama Bay that is dotted with rocky ridges and surrounded with golden sand.
It’s one of the quieter beaches compared to many other touristic towns along the south coast. The water here is calm and the atmosphere is so peaceful that you can simply spend the whole day on the beach (if you feel like it, you can!).
Weligama Waves
Weligama beach is ideal for new and intermediate level surfers. The waves here are consistent and calm making is great for leisure surfers.
Tour a coconut plantation
Sri Lanka is the fourth largest exporter of coconuts in the world. There are plenty of coconut plantations in the Weligama area that you can visit.
The number of uses of coconut will surprise you. It will be a great learning experience since you will be able to see different uses of coconut fibre.
Visit a Snake Farm
If you like shiny, slithery, scaly creatures then a visit to the snake farm might be something you enjoy. You may even get a chance to hold the non-venomous reptiles!
Day 5 – Colombo
There is much to do and see in Colombo and these places will vary according to your personal preferences.
If you want to take a touristic approach you can visit the National Museum, walk on the Galle Face Green, take photographs at Independence Square and walk on the streets of Pettah.
BUT if you really want to experience how life is in Colombo then you need to start by having a ‘Kottu’ with a Milo milkshake from a roadside ‘hotel’ in Bambalapitiya, and you need to take a tuk-tuk to get to that place!
Visit the National Museum
Located in the heart of Colombo the National Museum is on the list of ‘must sees’. With a history spanning 2500 years, Sri Lanka has a list of interesting artifacts to exhibit.
Galle Face Green
When you are in Colombo, there’s no way that Galle Face Green will go unnoticed. This is the best place to witness the sunset in the city. Surrounded by almost all the luxury hotels in this green grassy promenade overlooking the ocean is a place people cherish to visit in the evening.
Gangaramaya Temple
Located in the heart of Colombo, Gangaramaya is an iconic 150-year-old Buddhist temple. The temple houses an extensive collection of artifacts from all over the world. There is a museum located inside the temple.
