Transfers from Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport to Udawalawe By Train
Traveling by train from the Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport to Udawalawe is extremely complicated and time-consuming. The first obstacle is the lack of direct connection and second that only part of the trip is covered by train.
The first leg of the journey consists of reaching the Fort train station in Colombo. This is easiest done by taking the line 265 bus passing through the 18th Mile Post bus stop located some 900 meters north from the airport.
Buses pass through this stop every 20 or so minutes throughout the day. It will take you to the Colombo Central Bus Stand, which is some 700 meters from the Fort train station. From Colombo, you can take either the southern route to Matara or eastern to Badulla which passes through Haputale.
Trains for Matara depart at 0655, 0835, 1030, 1425, 1510 and 1550 every day, and additionally at 1646 and 1805 on weekdays. From Matara to Udawalawe you can travel by bus in two legs. First by catching a 32, 32-1 or 32-2 bus at the Broadway Matara bus stop some 350 meters from the railway station in Matara.
These buses pass through every 8-10 minutes throughout the day. They will take you to Nonagama where you can catch a line 3 bus on a bus stop across the street from where you would disembark. Line 3 buses pass on average every 10 minutes from 0817 till 2357.
If you decide on the eastern route, trains depart from Fort train station at 0555, 0645, 0830, 0945 and 2000 every day. Some 300 meters from the train station in Hapatula is a bus station from which, on average every 30-40 minutes, depart buses on lines 99, 99-8, 99-9, 99-10 and 99/314.
These buses pass through Pelmadulla, where you can board on line 98, 98-17 or 122/210 bus that will take you to Udawalawe.

Transfer from Colombo Airport to Udawalawe By Bus
Traveling from Colombo Airport to Udawalawe national park by bus is similar to traveling by train in the sense that you need to get to Colombo Fort station, but in this case, the bus station which is adjacent to the train station.
Colombo Fort bus station is some 500 meters walk from Colombo Central Bus Stand where you will disembark from line 265 bus.
