The city is home to the Galle International Stadium, arguably the luckiest home grounds for the Lions, having won 12 of 23 Tests played here. With Sri Lanka traditionally having good spin bowlers and batsmen who are good at playing against spin bowling this is not a surprise. Galle International Stadium is situated right across the street from the most famous landmark in the city, the Galle Dutch Fort. Originally built by Portuguese in 1588, and extensively expanded by Dutch in the following two centuries. Today it is one of the best-preserved colonial-era forts in Sri Lanka and recognized as the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Inside the fort’s walls, most of the buildings are restored to their former glory which is representative examples of colonial architecture in Sri Lanka. Besides several churches and the National Maritime Museum, among the visitors very popular is also the Old Dutch Hospital, which is today converted to a shopping and dining district. Because of 21 historical shipwrecks in the Galle harbour, it is also a very popular scuba diving spot.

Located 56 kilometres north from Galle and 65 kilometres south of Colombo, this resort town is almost perfectly halfway between both of them. It is famous for its palm tree-lined Bentota beach, toddy production, Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery, and watersports. Almost three kilometres long golden sand beach is one of the most serene beaches in Sri Lanka and offers an opportunity for either relaxation or various beach activities, of which jet skiing, wakeboarding, mono skiing, and windsurfing are most popular. There is no need to waste words on toddy, also known as palm wine. Simply, in Bentota, you will find some of the best on the island. For those with a bit of an adventurer in their heart, Bentota offers the opportunity for a boat safari on Madu Ganga river. But also a helicopter joyrides from the Richy Skylark Helipad.

The largest city of Sri Lanka and home to the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium (RPS) where England cricket team tour Of Sri Lanka 2020 ends. The RPS is one of the main home grounds of Lions, being the venue of more than 100 ODI matches, is also known as the Home of Sri Lankan Cricket. But the city has many more sights worth seeing. First and foremost is the neighbourhood of Pettah and its markets. Bustling streets of Pettah offer a slice of sights, sounds, and flavours of Sri Lanka. And sight to behold among the markets is certainly the Floating Markets anchored on the Beira lake.

Another neighbourhood worth exploring is the Cinnamon Gardens. The cinnamon plantation during the colonial period, today is known for the art galleries and museums. One of the museums is the National Museum of Natural History, which hosts a large collection of artefacts spanning the time period from the 4th century BC until the present day. If you are interested in exploring the colonial architecture, the Fort neighbourhood is a must-visit spot. Beautifully restored buildings, nestled among the modern construction are witnesses of long-ago times in Sri Lanka. And at the end of the day conclude your exploring of the city with a stroll into the sunset on the Galle Face Green.
