Just 55 kilometers from the airport is Munneswaram Kovil, a Hindu temple connected with the events of epic Ramayana. According to a legend, it is the location of a shrine where Lord Rama prayed to Shiva for absolution from killing Ravana. Lord Shiva answered his prayers with instructions to erect four at certain places lingams, symbols of Shiva. According to legend, the very first he erected just a short distance away, where Manavari Temple and this lingam is often called Ramalinga Shivan.

After breakfast at the hotel in Kalpitiya, we will embark on the trip to Sigiriya.

Our first stop will be Dolphin and Whale Watching boat trip. Between November and April, you can see gigantic pods of dolphins, sometimes numbering up to 1,000 individuals, merrily swimming and jumping out of the sea. While in November, December, March, and April, you can see the largest creature that has ever lived on Earth, the majestic blue whale.

On our way, we will visit the city of Dambulla, where the Golden Temple is located. This Buddhist temple was started in the 1st century BC. Extending through five caves, that over centuries were adorned with more than 150 statues of Buddha and more than 2,100 square meters of wall paintings.

After breakfast at the hotel in Sigiriya, we will embark on a day trip to the ancient city of Polonnaruwa.

One of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Sri Lanka, Polonnaruwa is the city that thrived from the 11th to the 13th century AD, as a religious and political center of Sinhalese civilization.

In the afternoon, we will embark on a Jeep Safari through Minneriya National Park. This wildlife protected area is located on the banks of the historic Minneriya Wewa, a lake dammed in the 3rd century AD. During the dry season, wildlife flocks here in search of food and water, and you can see the largest gathering of Sri Lankan elephants.

After breakfast at the hotel in Sigiriya, we will start on our way to Kandy.

In the morning we will pass through Lion Gate and climb up the Lion Rock, to visit the Sigiriya Fortress. This ancient citadel and majestic gardens which surround it, date from the 5th century AD, and are declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Some of the ancient fountains in its gardens are functional to this day and represent the testament to ancient Sinhalese builders.

On our way, we will also visit the Spice and Herbal Garden. Here you will be able to learn about the history of Sri Lanka’s spices trade and buy some high-quality natural products, of which the Sri Lankan true cinnamon is world-famous for its quality.

After arriving in Kandy, at 4 pm starts the Kandyan Dance Show which we will attend. During this cultural show, you will enjoy the traditional Kandyan dances, also known as Uda Rata Natum.

In the evening we will visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, one of the holiest Buddhist temples, where the sacred relic of Buddha’s tooth is located.

After breakfast at the hotel in Kandy, we will embark on our trip to Nuwara Eliya.

The road will take us through the neighborhood of Peradeniya, where the Royal Botanic Garden is located. They are world-renowned for the collection of orchids and were built on the location of the palace gardens of one of the first Sinhala kings that ruled from Kandy.

On route, we will take a tour through the Tea Factory, where you can first hand see the process of production of some of the finest tea in the world.

Then we will visit the Shri Bhakta Hanuman Temple in Ramboda. A short way down the road is the Ramboda Falls, a tiered waterfall formed by the Pana Oya river.

Nuwara Eliya is located high above the sea level and thus has a mild climate that is favorable for growing fruits which are more common in continental Europe. And at Strawberry Farms we will visit, you can have some of the most aromatic products from this fruit.

In the afternoon we will spend time on Lake Gregory, which was since the founding of the town a favorite place for leisure time. On the lake, you can enjoy trout fishing, boating or jet skiing.

In the early morning, we will get on the road. Breakfast is provided in the form of the takeaway.

Our first stop will be at the Seetha Amman Temple, a Hindu temple erected on the place where according to legend Lord Ravana kept Princess Sita in captivity, as described in the epic Ramayana. Just above the temple is located the Ashok Vatika, a wooded area where according to legend Lord Hanuman present Lord Rama’s ring to Sita under an Ashoka tree as proof of his identity.

Afterward, we will continue to the next two places with a connection to Ramayana. Ravana Ella is the waterfall where according to legend princess Sita bathed during her captivity at nearby Ravana Caves.

The next stop on our way is the Buduruwagala Temple, known for the 10th century carved statues that belong to the tradition of Mahayana Buddhism. Of these, the central sculpture of standing Buddha is 16 meters tall which makes it the tallest in Sri Lanka.

This day we will spend in activities available in and around Mirissa.

In the morning, at 7 am, from Mirissa Harbor disembark Whale Watching tour boats. From November to April you can spot some of the most magnificent marine mammals in this area. Most common are the members of the species of the largest animals that ever inhabited Earth, blue whales.

The nearby Unawatuna is known for its splendid beaches, but the shallow waters that surround it are also excellent Snorkeling spot, due to coral reefs that are home to rich marine wildlife.

The rest of the day you can spend on Leisure, and enjoy the beautiful golden beaches and crystal clear waters of Mirissa, which makes it one of the prime destinations in Sri Lanka.

After breakfast at the hotel in Mirissa, we will start our trip to BIA airport.

On our way, we will visit the Galle Fort. A walled fortress built in the 15th century by Portuguese and greatly expanded in the 16th by Dutch. It is one of the best-preserved European colonial-era fortresses in South Asia, and also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Further north along the coast is located one of the more prominent places dedicated to conservation and protection of sea turtles, the Kosgoda Sea Turtle Conservation Project. Here, with a bit of luck, you can see the baby turtles being released into the ocean.

While in Kosgoda, we will also embark on the Madu Ganga River Boat Safari, and take a one hour trip by boat, through thick mangrove forests that are teeming with wildlife.
