Day 2 – Sigiriya to Kandy

After breakfast at the hotel in Sigiriya, we will embark on the trip to Kandy.

The first stop we will make in the city of Dambulla, where the Golden Temple of Dambulla is located. This cave temple complex is the largest and best-preserved of his kind. Founded in the 1st century BC, this place of worship is still attracting Buddhist worshipers to pray and meditate, surrounded by more than 2,100 square meters of religious wall paintings depicting the life and teachings of Buddha.

Continuing on our way, we will visit Spice and Herbal Garden. Here, surrounded by a pleasant mixture of fragrances, you can learn about many spices produced on the island.

When we arrive in Kandy, we will attend the cultural heritage show. Starting at 4 pm, the Kandyan Dance Show will showcase us one of the most valuable immaterial heritage of Sinhalese civilization, traditional dances that over millennia developed from religious rituals and as an art form.

After the show, we will visit the Buddhist temple where one of the holiest relics is located. The Sri Dalada Maligawa, better known as the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a temple built for the purpose of safekeeping and veneration of the sacred relic of Buddha’s tooth.

If time allows it, we will also visit a Gem Museum, Traditional Wood Carving Factory or Batik Factory.

Day 3 – Kandy to Nuwara Eliya

After breakfast at the hotel in Kandy, we will start our journey to Nuwara Eliya.

Just outside of the city center of Kandy, we will visit the Royal Botanic Garden. With pathways lined with more than 4,000 different plant species, it is one of the stunningly romantic places. The gardens are also world-famous for the collection of orchids.

Continuing on our way we will visit a Tea Factory. The cool temperate climate of central highland is favorable for the slow-growing tea tree, and here you can learn about and sample some of the best tea in the world.

Our next stop will be the Sri Bhakta Hanuman, a Hindu temple dedicated to a deity which is one of the central characters of epic Ramayana. Near the temple is the Ramboda Ella, majestic waterfall over which water slopes in the Y pattern.

The climate of Nuwara Eliya is not suitable only for tea growing, but also for fruits and vegetables that are an unusual sight on the tropical islands. We will visit Strawberry Farm, where you can indulge in these wholesome fruits and natural products made of them.

Our first stop will be the Seetha Aman Kovil, a Hindu temple dedicated to the princess Sitha, who on this very spot, according to a legend, spent the last part of her captivity, until she was freed by the army of her husband Lord Rama, as described in the epic Ramayana. Near the temple is a wooded area called Ashoka Vatika, where Lord Hanuman presented proof of his identity as a follower of Rama to her under an Ashok tree.

The rest of the day we will spend in leisure. Nuwara Eliya is a popular place for relaxation and rest, and Lake Gregory is one of the hot spots for such activities. Since the late 19th century, when the lake was constructed, it was popular for long romantic walks and boating in the afternoon.

A direct trip from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya typically takes 2 hours and 10 minutes, and you will stay overnight at Hotel on the Bed & Breakfast basis, with breakfast included in price.
